Please don't email health details you'd rather keep private. We don't need them to help, and the app never sends us anything.

In the app: open Settings (the gear icon) → How this works. It explains each feature in more detail, including what Insights can tell you and when. Settings → Help & support opens this page.

Frequently asked questions

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. GI AI doesn't have permission to use the internet, so Android won't let it send anything anywhere. There's no account, no server and no analytics. Your entries are kept in the app's private storage on your phone, and the on-device AI runs on the phone too.

We tested this on a phone. A Google library inside the app (ML Kit, which connects the app to the on-device AI) tried to send its usage log, and Android blocked it because GI AI has no internet permission. The app kept working, and the on-device AI still wrote summaries.

You can also export a file yourself, such as a backup, a report or a table. Where it goes after that is up to you.

Is my data encrypted?

Your entries are kept in the app's private storage, which Android keeps apart from other apps. On current phones, Android also encrypts that storage whenever the phone is locked with a PIN, pattern or password.

GI AI doesn't add its own encryption or its own lock, so anyone who can unlock your phone and open the app can read your diary. Use a screen lock. The app's preview in the recent-apps screen is hidden, so your diary isn't shown there when you switch apps.

Which phones does it work on?

For adults 18 and over, on Android 8.0 and later. Logging, summaries, insights and the doctor report work on any of those phones. The on-device AI features (the "AI wording" in summaries, reading a meal photo, and picking foods out of what you type) need a phone that supports Gemini Nano, such as recent Pixels. It's developed and tested on a Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

Where can I get it?

It's coming soon to Google Play and isn't in the store yet. When there's a link, it will be on the home page.

What does the AI actually do?

On supported phones, it does three things, all on the phone. It rewords your Day, Week and Month summaries into readable sentences, marked "AI wording". It reads the food from a meal photo and suggests a count and portion size, and you confirm that before it's saved. Anything it suggested is marked with a *. And it picks out the food items in what you type. On other phones, fixed rules pick out the foods, and summaries keep their plain rule-written wording.

The AI never makes up a calorie number, a total or a pattern. Those are worked out by fixed rules from your entries, and calories are always shown as a rough estimate.

Why does Insights say so little at first?

Insights counts the days you actually logged something, not the days since you installed the app. It needs about 30 logged days before it compares anything, because before that there isn't enough to compare against. When it finds nothing, it says so, instead of making up a pattern.

To look around a filled-in app first, use Settings → Sample Data. It's clearly labelled, and removing it takes out only what it added.

What happens to my photos?

A meal photo is read by the on-device AI and deleted once the food is logged. A stool photo is kept with its entry, so you can show it to a doctor.

Will it log something I didn't mean to?

Food read from a photo, and amounts read from what you type (like "two hot dogs" or "a large coffee"), are shown in a confirm box first, where you can change the count and size. Nothing is saved until you confirm. A plain note with no amount, like "toast and coffee", is saved as you typed it.

How do I make a report for my doctor?

Go to Insights → Reports → For your doctor. It makes a printable page from your own entries: the stool log, symptom surveys, medication log, and how complete your logging was. Save it to a folder on your phone or share it through Android's share sheet, then print it or save it as a PDF from your browser. Any single table can also be saved to a folder as a CSV file.

No AI-written text goes into the report.

How do I move to a new phone?

Use Settings → Backup & Transfer to save your entries and medication list to one file. Move the file to the new phone and import it there. Photos don't travel in the file.

Android's own phone-to-phone transfer and cloud backup leave GI AI out completely. That's deliberate, so no copy of your data ends up there.

Does GI AI give medical advice?

No. GI AI is not a medical device. It reports what you logged, and what it shows are things to notice and talk over with your doctor. Always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions over anything the app displays.

How do I delete my data?

See Delete your data. In short: uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored on your phone. Settings → Danger Zone → Clear All Data deletes everything you logged or added, your photos and settings, and cancels your reminders, but keeps the app installed.
